It’s the little things
Little things add up. They point to something bigger. They combine to make bigger things in life.
I’ve had a good string of little things lately-
**An invite to write for Reno Tahoe Tonight Magazine every month. Just a small article, but it’s part of something pretty damn cool. It’s really the only locally produced monthly rag around anymore. It’s focused enough to be relevant but eclectic enough to capture an interesting audience. I’m happy to be a part of it!
**That turned into an invite to be on their TV show this Friday. Oliver asked me to join him for a filming of Loaded TV to talk food. You can check it out live at 10:30 am this Friday the 13th (scary!!!!) or the archive will be up on the site about an hour after.
**In the writing world I’ve also been asked to contribute to the quarterly newsletter for the Great Basin Co-Op. It’s a good chance to get a bit more involved with the local food scene. I’ll be writing about a different seasonal ingredient each issue. Funny thing is that they picked something I really don’t like for my first go around- rhubarb….. but, that makes it a good challenge. Right?
**Last month a local IT support company, Biz-Net, hired me to do a little build out of their Facebook profile. That turned into a referral to offer a proposal to present to a few hundred doctor’s offices across the country. It’s a perfect fit for me since I get to build the system and let someone else manage it. No long term commitment that I hate
**I’m wrapping up another small web copywriting project that is hopefully the first of many. I was hired by a web designer that usually does copywriting himself. The “problem” is that he is busy and the copywriting takes him an extra day or two on finishing the site. Now with me on board he can close his delivery time by a few days at least. Seems like a good partnership so far. It also fits right into the “do it and forget it” kind of projects that fit into my life so well.
Those five things all add up to good promotion and some income streams that fit into my loose schedule. Also, they are all tied to writing which is something I’ve always enjoyed but never really pursued until recently. And all together, they give me a bit of a broader base to the things I enjoy and another step to reaching the goal of being fluid in income, location and schedule.
Here’s to building the empire, one little block at a time……
